About the event
City Goats is about keeping goats on smallholdings. In this class, we build a comprehensive foundation of nutrition, reproduction and health management. The instructor utilizes whole foods, herbs and essential oils exclusively for abundant health, so commercial antibiotics, supplements and prescription medications will not be covered in detail. This is a hands-on class that involves handling a full-size goat. Please wear close-toed shoes and come prepared to get a little dirty.
Topics covered in this class:
• Breeding and kidding
• How to milk a goat
• Testing for disease
• Common ailments
• The herbal medicine chest
• Gardening for goats
• Additional resources
About the instructor:
Sarah Taylor is the owner and chief milkmaid at Jedidiah Farm + Studio, a diversified and pasture based certified organic farm located on 5 acres in Westerville, Ohio. Sarah started out gardening and keeping goats in her own city backyard on 1/5 acre before moving to greener pastures to start her own raw milk herd-share, and she enjoys discussing the challenges and joys of creative homesteading in small spaces.
