Basic Pruning Skills for the Home Gardener

Proper pruning not only enhances the health and beauty of your landscape but also the value of your home! Join Tisa Watts, the Columbus Garden Coach, for a hands-on overview of basic pruning tools and techniques that apply to 80% of the woody plants in your yard. Learn how to successfully trim a variety of shrubs and small trees including lilacs, hydrangeas, apples, roses, Japanese maples, and hedge plants like boxwood and yew. Learn the correct methods of controlling plant size, health, and integrity through selective shaping and thinning of branch structure. Late winter is pruning time in Central Ohio – this year, be ready to tackle the task in a knowledgeable and confident way!

NOTE: Bring in your garden tools for a free evaluation of condition and usability, and to try out some pruning techniques. Also, feel free to bring in photos of a problem plant in your landscape – please take both a close-up and overall picture of the issue, and print it out if possible.

THE INSTRUCTOR: Tisa Watts is the Columbus Garden Coach. A landscape designer, educator, and public speaker for over 15 years, Tisa’s passion is engaging others in eco-friendly, low-maintenance, and FUN edible and ornamental gardening. She is available for in-depth landscape consultations, seasonal pruning of shrubs and small trees, and other garden-related activities.
